Becoming a Licensed Real Estate Agent in Massachusetts

The Process...

1. TAKE THE CLASS

The first step in obtaining a Real Estate License in Massachusetts is to complete the required 40-hour Pre-licenseing course. The J. Alexander Academy has many course options available, to enroll, click the BOOK NOW! button on the right  to sign up for a class.

2. SCHEDULE YOUR EXAM

Once you have completed the required 40-hour course, you must register for the Real Estate Salesperson's Exam with PSI.

You can do this by telephone at 1-800-733-9267. You can also schedule your exam online att: https://candidate.psiexams.com/index.jsp

You must create an account with PSI and pay the required exam fee. Once your account is created and the exam fee is paid, you can then choose the exam location, date and time you prefer.

It is best to take your exam within 2-3 weeks of completing the course. You want to make sure you give yourself time to prepare for the exam, but take the exam while all of the information you learned in the class is still fresh on the brain.

3. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!

There are a lot of terms, concepts, laws and theory that you must learn to prepare for the exam. You must study for the exam, it is not as simple as sitting through the 40 hours of class time and just passing a test.

People do not plan to fail, they fail to plan. Devise a study schedule and review your textbook, and notes from class to prepare for the exam.

4. EXAM DAY

  • Get a good nights rest the night before your exam.
  • Do not try to cram the night before or the day of your exam.
  • Know where you are going, and how long it will take you to get to the exam center.
  • Arrive early.
  • Have the required forms of identification and documents ready.
  • Be 'Camera Ready' - When you pass your exam you are going to have your picture taken and thet picture goes on your real estate license, so be ready to say 'Cheese!'.

5. I PASSED! NOW WHAT?

  • Be prepared to pay for your license. After you pass your exam you will be expected to pay the licensing fee immediately.
